During the summer of 1922, photographer Norman Harris has a first class ticket to America on the transatlantic ocean liner SS King Alexander. Aboard the same ship, Niki is in third class, along with 700 other brides. Each bride has her own trunk containing the photograph of a bridegroom she has never met, as well as her bridal gown. Norman is touched when he sees all the brides, but Niki is the one who makes the greatest impression on him.
During the voyage they develop a relationship and fall in love. As they sail into New York harbour, the epilogue of the Niki-Norman relationship is played out. Brides is a story about emotion, dilemma and conscience. It is about the tender moments and the choices that matter most in life.
